Lions Hitting Stride at Midpoint of Outdoor Season

Mar 25, 2023

The Lions men's and women's track teams enjoyed a productive couple of days as the split squads travelled to North Carolina State and the University of Central Florida to position themselves for some potential NCAA qualifying times.

In Raleigh at NC State, freshman Luca Poppe set a freshman Saint Leo record in the 1500M with a time of 3:50.93, which is just one second off the NCAA qualifying mark. Joining Poppe in the category of NCAA qualification was Remi Liberse who crossed the 3000M finish line in 9:13:93 just a second off the NCAA qualifying mark in the 3000M. Arthur Cosson continues his successful spring with an NCAA qualifying time of 29:52 in the 10K. This puts Cosson at 14th in Division II as he set the school record with an amazing 24-second improvement from his previous best.

Over at UCF several Lions set personal bests as they hit the Golden Knights track. Kerry Reilly had a personal best in the 1500 M at 4:41.29, while Kayla Groppe, Lauren Brooks, Skyelar Aguilar, and Albert LaRed all had personal bests in the 1500m at 5:05.02, 5:13.27, 5:26.01,and 4:26.56 respectfully. The Lions also had Kerry Reilly excel in the 5K with a personal best of 18:00.76 which trimmed 11 seconds off her personal best, while Riley Briones (19:33.43) and teammate Aidan O'Leary (16:04.32) also set personal best in the men's 5K.

The Lions return to action this afternoon at UCF as they near the midpoint of the outdoor season.
