ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo beach volleyball team traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida Friday morning to compete in day one of the Eckerd Battle on the Bay Tournament against University of Tampa and Eckerd. The Lions split their afternoon falling short to the Spartans in game one 1-4 and defeating the Tritons 4-1.

During the first match of the day against University of Tampa, the pairing of Ignacia Cortinez and Emma Miller won the sole match for the Lions defeating Hailey Wolfe and Nevaeh Wolfe, 29-27 and 21-14.

The second was all Saint Leo as the Lions defeated the host Eckerd College Tritons, 4-1. The pairing of Aliya Fredette-Huffman and Jeanette Henderson opened up Saint Leo's first match of the day with a three set win, 21-19, 19-21, and 15-13. The pairing of Amanda Doherty and LeeAnn Potter won both of their exhibition matches this evening.

The Lions will return to action for day two of the Battle on the Bay Tournament at Eckerd College Battle on the Bay. They will compete against Missouri State at 10 A.M. and Palm Beach Atlantic at 1 P.M.
