TAMPA, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Women's tennis team picked up its third conference win Tuesday afternoon, defeating #14 Tampa 5-2 at Naimoli Young Family Tennis Complex.
The Lions (4-0, 3-0 SSC) swept the Doubles portion, led by #15
Marta Vicens Miquel/Lavinia Lancelotti's 6-1 victory over Raquel Amaro/Victoria Sanchez 6-1. The Green & Gold won the other two Doubles matches 6-4 apiece.
Of the six Singles matches, Saint Leo won four, with #9
Marta Vicens Miquel leading the way with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Raquel Amaro.
"What a battle today!" said Head Coach
Chad Berryhill. "Tampa played a great match and really tested us in a lot of different ways. Big credit to their play today. I am super proud of our team and how we kept fighting and finding a way. One of those matches that could go either way. We learned a lot about ourselves this match and now we have to get back to work in practice."
The Lions turn its attention toward the ITA Indoor Nationals in Kearney, Neb., drawing #5 Flagler Friday, February 24th. First serve is set for 9 a.m. EST.
