Kinberger Promotes Johnson To Associate Softball Head Coach

Apr 22, 2022

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo Head Softball Coach Erin Kinberger '07 announced on Friday that Brittany Johnson has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of Saint Leo Softball.

Johnson joined the coaching staff in 2019 as a graduate assistant, and within a few short months, was promoted to the assistant position. In her first season, the Lions went on to put together a 31-18 record and a 20-10 record in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the tenth time in program history in 2019. Saint Leo has been above .500 every year that Johnson has been on the coaching staff.

"I am beyond excited and proud to name Brittany as Associate Head Coach," says Kinberger. "She is most deserving and earned this title change. She is a phenomenal coach and person."

Johnson came to Saint Leo after a two-year volunteer stint at her alma mater, Rollins College. Johnson was a standout student-athlete for the Tars where she was a middle infielder from 2013-2016. She helped guide the Tars to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Tars' march to the South Region Championship in 2016. Johnson is a two time All-SSC nominee and was named to both the 2015 NCAA and Daktronics All-South Region Teams, before earning 2015 NFCA All-American status. She followed that with a CoSIDA Academic All-Region showing in 2016.

"Brittany has been special from the moment she joined our program and staff," continued Kinberger. "I am appreciative of her hard work, dedication, knowledge, and friendship. She is an intricate factor in our success here from the classroom to the field and everything in between."

"I'm sincerely thankful to Saint Leo, our Athletic Director Fran Reidy, and Erin Kinberger for giving me this opportunity to continue to be a part of "SLUSB's" success on and off the field," says Johnson. "I have already grown and learned so much in the past four years here at Saint Leo, and I am excited to progress even more in this new role. I'm honored and grateful for Erin's confidence in promoting me to this position, especially here at her alma mater."

Johnson and the Lions are set to begin a three-game series at Embry-Riddle this weekend before hosting Palm Beach Atlantic for their final home series of the season, and finally heading to Eckerd to close out 2022.
