SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 3 Saint Leo women's tennis team took down No. 16 Rollins Tuesday afternoon inside the Saint Leo Tennis Center. The Lions cruised to a 6-1 decision to raise their record to 16-2, 7-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. Before the first serve, Saint Leo honored and thanked its senior class of 2022: first-year Lion, graduate student
Maria Valverde Soler, and four-year Lion,
Nina Furmaniak.
Both seniors went 2-0 on the day. Furmaniak and first doubles partner,
Alina Fedulova won the first flight; 7-5. She then added a singles victory in the second flight; 6-3, 6-1. Meanwhile, Valverde Soler and third doubles teammate,
Celina Ermann, topped the Tars; 7-6 (8-6). She went on to register a sixth flight victory; 6-2, 6-1.
Marta Vicens Miquel didn't surrender a game all day. The graduate student from Port De Pollensa, Spain recorded a 6-0 second doubles win with
Lavinia Lancellotti. No. 26 Vicens Miquel then defeated No. 32 Georgina Groth in the first singles flight; 6-0, 6-0.
The Green and Gold will wrap up the regular season schedule in their next match on Friday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. hosting the No. 25 West Florida Argonauts.
