Wilson Promoted to Associate Athletic Director

Aug 17, 2021

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University Vice President and Director of Athletics Francis X. Reidy has announced the promotion of Assistant Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Barbara Wilson to Associate Athletic Director. Wilson has been a member of the Saint Leo Athletic Department for 22 years, joining the staff in August of 1999.

"Barbara Wilson has done an amazing job as the head of our sports medicine area for over 20 years," said Reidy. "What became evident during the challenging times of COVID was how much more she could contribute to the staff and students beyond just sports medicine. It is important to recognize and reward the doers. This well-deserved promotion allows her to focus on her role as the Senior Woman Administrator, and to develop other areas as the Health Care Administrator such as mental health, nutrition and other special programming for our student-athletes. This change in structure will elevate our sports medicine area, as well as all of our programs."

Over her 22 years at Saint Leo she has elevated from Head Athletic Trainer in 1999 to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in 2014 followed by a promotion to Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and Athletics Health Care Administrator (AHCA) in 2017 until the current promotion to Associate Athletic Director. Wilson will continue to hold the titles of SWA and AHCA along with her new Associate AD moniker.

"I would like to thank Fran Reidy for all of his support and mentorship since I started at Saint Leo," said Wilson. "I am genuinely excited to embrace this opportunity and be able to have a greater impact on all of the student-athletes and staff in the athletics department."

She has seen the university and department grow throughout her time on campus and she now oversees a five-person athletic training staff to coordinate coverage for all 21 men's and women's programs.

Wilson is a 1988 graduate of Cortland State where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in athletic training. She went on to earn her master's degree just two years later in 1990 at Western Michigan in physical education with a concentration in sports medicine.

She is married to her husband, David, who is the Athletic Director and a teacher at Wiregrass Ranch High School. She has three sons including Kyle, who is the Vice President of Technology at Lean Solutions Group, Bryce, the Founder and CEO of Ticket Rescue and Payton, who is currently a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy.
