TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced, on June 15, the regional award winners for the 2020-21 season, where Saint Leo student-athlete
Marta Vicens Miquel earned her second straight Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award for the year.
The ITA announced regional winners for the following awards: Wilson ITA Coach of the Year, ITA Assistant Coach of the Year, Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, ITA Rookie of the Year, ITA Most Improved Senior, ITA Senior Player of the Year, ITA Community Service Award, and the ITA Community Service Award Honorable Mention.
Vicens Miquel, a native of Port de Pollensa, Spain, garnered the Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award in back-to-back seasons. She finished her 2021 campaign with a 6-3 record at no. 2 singles while posting a 6-5 record at no. 3 doubles with primary partner
Celina Ermann, including one match with
Sandra Swiderski.
A 2020 ITA Singles All-American, 2018 Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, and a three-time All-SSC Singles selection, Vicens Miquel wrapped up her fourth year with the Green and Gold with an overall record of 46-21 in singles play while holding a 46-29 doubles record.
The ITA Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award recognizes outstanding student-athletes in all five divisions (NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and JUCO) at the regional and national level. This prestigious award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to the men's and women's national student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
The national winners of the awards will be announced next week, June 21-25 on the ITA website at
