#10 Women’s Tennis Cruises Past Embry-Riddle

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team, ranked 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA), celebrated the return to the Saint Leo Tennis Center by continuing in its' winning ways. After five matches on the road, the Lions cruised to a 6-1 victory while hosting the Embry-Riddle Eagles. The three-hour match raised the Green and Gold's overall record to 6-2, 6-2 in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) while the Eagles fell to 3-6, 3-6 in the SSC.
 
No. 10 Saint Leo swept the doubles team point after Marta Vicens Miquel and Celina Ermann won out their 7-5 third doubles battle. Molly Helgesson and Lavinia Lancellotti, who are ranked 15th according to Thursday's ITA doubles poll, topped their first flight opponents, 6-4. The win raised the No. 15 dynamic duo's record to 6-2 while exclusively competing in the first flight. Meanwhile, Nina Furmaniak and Takhmina Zhanatova earned their third win together in the second flight, handing in a 6-2 decision.
 
Vicens Miquel finished up her work in singles action quickly. The senior from Port De Pollensa, Spain whipped up a 6-0, 6-1 second flight final. Furmaniak, Helgesson, and Ermann also went 2-0 on the day capturing wins in their respective matches. Helgesson, who the ITA tabbed as the fourth-best singles player in the country, clinched the first singles match 6-1, 7-5. Ashley Griffith rounded out the Lions dominant day earning a 6-3, 6-3 sixth flight victory.

Keeping Our Lions Healthy & Safe
Saint Leo University Athletics is keeping our student-athletes healthy and safe by following a number of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes having student-athletes tested or screened on a regular basis, traveling in smaller groups, holding competitions without fans in attendance, avoiding overnight trips, and wearing masks when not competing. These safety standards meet those set by the NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference President's Council. At Saint Leo University, the COVID-19 Incident Command Team also reviews the teams' safety protocol and monitors adherence on a regular basis.
