Swimming Concludes Day Two in Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swimming teams closed out their weekend in Lakeland with a number of strong performances including a trio of NCAA "B" standards and eight event victories. The Lions dropped both meets to the Mocs of Florida Southern but used the opportunity to put up some strong qualifying marks for next month's NCAA Championships.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men's Finals:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The meets consisted of 27 total events including 12 in the opening meet and 15 in the second meet.
  • The Saint Leo men won four of the 13 male events while the Saint Leo women took four of the 14 female events.
  • The Lion men had two NCAA "B" qualifying standard times while the women picked up one.
  • The Saint Leo women posted a one-two finish in the 100 back for the second-straight day.
 
MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Junior Matthew Daniel posted another NCAA "B" standard, his third of the weekend, in the 1650 free. He topped the field in 15:40.35.
  • Freshmen Jakub Kwasny earned his second NCAA "B" standard of the weekend as he took second in the 200 fly with a qualifying time of 1:48.31.
  • Freshman Spencer Jyawook continued his strong season with a win in the 50 free as he raced across the pool and back in 20.79.
  • Junior Hampus Lovinge took his second victory of the weekend as he won the 100 back in 51.53.
  • The final Lions victory came in the 200 free relay as Jyawook, senior Fridtjov Mork, freshman Szymon Leszega and freshman Carlos Nava combined for a time of 1:24.50.
 
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Freshman Isabelle Sering earned the lone "B" standard for the women as she topped the field in the 100 fly with a qualifying time of 55.61.
  • Freshman Anett Daka and Sering went one-two in the 100 back to lead the Lions. Daka touched in 56.93 while Sering came in at 57.30.
  • Junior Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello continued her winning ways as she took the top prize in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.64.
  • Sering, freshman Jayana Pasteur, Daka and Bonsanti Feniello combined to win the 200 free relay as the quartet posted a time of 1:37.35.
 
UP NEXT:
Saint Leo will close out its shortened regular season tomorrow, February 28, at 2 p.m. as the Lions travel to Melbourne, Fla. to take on the Panthers of Florida Tech.
