#22 Lions Split Tri-Meet at Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The 22nd-ranked Saint Leo women's swimming team split Friday afternoon at Florida Tech in a tri-meet that included the host Panthers and the 15th-ranked Lynn Fighting Knights. The Lions defeated the Panthers while falling in a close meet with the Fighting Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The meet consisted of 14 events including a pair of relays.
  • The Lions had a swimmer within the top two finishers in all but one event.
  • Saint Leo captured four individual event victories and one relay.
  • The Green and Gold had two swimmers in the top-three in two events.
 
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Isabelle Sering once again led the Lions as she brought home a pair of individual event victories and was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay. She also picked up a second place finish in the 100 freestyle. The Trelleborg, Sweden native took home wins in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly. She topped the field in the 50 free with a time of 24.58 while taking home the 100 fly title in 57.08. Sering clocked in at 53.16 in the 100 free to take her lone second place finish.
  • Sophomore Anett Daka earned an individual victory in the 200 freestyle while taking second in the 200 backstroke. She was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay and the second place 200 medley relay. Daka earned her win in the 200 free after stopping the clock at 1:55.30. She then earned a second place showing in the 200 back after touching the wall in 2:09.17.
  • Sophomore Emma Bjoernholdt took home the only other individual victory as she topped the field in the 200 breaststroke. She also took second in the 200 butterfly and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay and the second place 200 medley relay. She was joined in the top three of the 200 breast by freshman Elze Bielskute as the pair posted a one-three finish in the event. Bjoernholdt clocked in at 2:24.05 while Bielskute came in just over two seconds later at 2:26.36. She took sliver in the 200 fly after touching the wall in 2:10.23.
  • Bielskute also earned a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke as she was the top Lion at 1:07.33.
  • Senior Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello earned a pair of second place individual finishes in the two distance freestyle events contested on the day. She clocked in at 10:43.64 in the 1000 and then came in at 5:14.69 in the 500. She was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay.
  • Sophomore Jayana Pasteur and freshman Romane Cayla posted a two-three finish in the 100 backstroke. Pasteur finished in 59.57 while Romane finished just over a second later at 1:00.72. Pasteur was part of the second place 200 medley relay as well.
  • The Lions' 400 freestyle relay took first to end the meet as Daka, Bjoernholdt, Bonsanti Feniello and Sering teamed up to turn in a time of 3:34.88.
  • Saint Leo also took second in the 200 medley relay as Daka, senior Paulina Majszutowicz, Pasteur and Bjoernholdt clocked in at 1:48.68.

Saint Leo will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 6 at 18th-ranked Rollins as the Lions face another tough opponent on the road.
