MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swimming team came up just three points shy of upsetting 19
th-ranked Florida Tech Friday afternoon as the Lions earned a split at the tri-meet. The Lions defeated Lynn while coming up just short against the nationally-ranked Panthers.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The meet consisted of 14 events including a pair of relays.
- The Lions had a swimmer within the top two finishers in all but one event.
- Saint Leo captured seven individual event victories and one relay.
- Sophomore Carlos Nava secured the Lions' first NCAA "B" qualifying standard of the season.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Sophomore Carlos Nava produced the Lions first NCAA "B" qualifying standard of the season as he won the 100 breaststroke in 55.40, swimming under the standard time of 55.56. Nava also earned a win in the 200 breaststroke as he topped the field in 2:04.46. The Miami, Fla. native was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay and the second place 200 medley relay.
- Senior Hampus Lovinge had an outstanding meet bringing home three individual victories while also swimming on the second place 200 medley relay. The Norrkoping, Sweden native won the 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley. He touched the wall in 51.34 in the 100 back before claiming a win in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.39. He outpaced the field in the individual medley after completing the distance in 1:54.31.
- Sophomores Devin Green and Szymon Leszega went first and third in the 200 freestyle. Green took home the victory in 1:42.09 while Leszega finished two spots back at 1:47.04. The pair were also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay while Leszega took part in the second place 200 medley relay. Leszega also brought home an individual victory of his own in the 100 freestyle as he touched the wall in 46.74 to beat the field.
- Junior Hugo Chopineau earned a second place finish in the 1000 freestyle and a third place showing in the 500 freestyle. He completed the longest race of the meet in 9:47.93 to earn his second place finish while he stopped the clock at 4:46.32 in the 500.
- Sophomore Jakub Kwasny placed second in the 50 freestyle as he completed the two lengths of the pool in 21.86. He was also part of the winning 400 freestyle relay and the second place 200 medley relay.
- Sophomore RJ Ferguson brought home the only other top-three finish for the Lions as he took third in the 100 butterfly at 52.50.
- Green, Leszega, Nava and Kwasny took home the final event of the evening as the quartet teamed up to post a time of 3:04.09 to win the 400 freestyle relay.
- Saint Leo also took second in the 200 medley relay as Lovinge, Nava, Kwasny and Leszega clocked in at 1:33.77.

Saint Leo will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 6 at Rollins for an 11 a.m. dual meet.
