CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Saint Leo beach volleyball team continued play in the CofC Creekside Beach Classic hosted by the College of Charleston Sunday. It was an early morning for the Lions as their first match began at 8:30 a.m. after losing an hour of sleep due to daylight saving time going into effect early Sunday morning.  The Lions fell to a pair of NCAA Division I programs including Coastal Carolina, who was one of four teams in the others receiving votes category in the most recent AVCA Top-20 poll, and the host College of Charleston.

Saint Leo dropped the opening match to the Chanticleers 4-1. Freshmen Megan Keating and Phoebe Hammond brought home the lone victory for the Lions as they battled to a 21-19, 17-21, 16-14 victory at No. 5. The Lions' No. 1 duo and No. 4 duo each scored a total of 30 points in their respective matches. Sophomore Arlaina Stephenson and junior Nina Vattovaz dropped the No. 1 match 21-11, 21-19 while sophomore Kirsten Kaiser and freshman Skylar Singleton fell at No. 4 21-15, 21-15.

The Lions fell to host College of Charleston 5-0 with redshirt sophomore Anna Garrett and sophomore Payton Bellano putting up the toughest fight at No. 3 as they fell 21-16, 19-21, 15-12. Freshmen Michelle Cuervo and Madi Certain earned a total of 32 points in their match falling 21-18, 21-14.

The Lions will be back in action Thursday, March 12 at 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. as they host both Tusculum and Palm Beach Atlantic for a tri-match at the Saint Leo Beach Volleyball Courts.
