Daniel and Bonsanti Feniello Open Up NCAA Competition

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Sophomores Matthew Daniel and Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello opened up competition at the 2020 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday morning. The pair represented the Saint Leo men's and women's swimming teams in the 1,000 freestyle during the opening session of the championships.
 
Bonsanti Feniello was the first to hit the water as she took 24th overall in a field of 40. She stopped the clock at 10:14.64. She just out touched Karolina Dubcakova of UIndy who took 25th.
 
Daniel then posted a time of 9:16.73 to earn the first point of the meet for the Lions as he took 16th good for one point toward the team total. The second-year swimmer missed out on the 2019 championships due to an injury after qualifying in three events. He beat out 19 other swimmers in the event including defeating the 17th place finisher by over a second.
 
Junior Kosta Mitrovic of the men's team will have chance to add to the team's point total Saturday when he competes in the 200 breaststroke. Mitrovic took 14th in the event at the 2018 championships.
