SAINT LEO, Fla. – A new era in Saint Leo athletics is set to begin on Sunday as the university's 21
st intercollegiate sport, Acrobatics & Tumbling (A&T) will embark on its first meet in the inaugural season Sunday against Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.
Acrobatics & Tumbling, a discipline of USA Gymnastics, is the evolution of different forms of gymnastics and involves tumbling, tosses, and acrobatic lifts and pyramids. Teams participate in head-to-head competition and are scored in six events, including Compulsory, Acro, Pyramid, Toss, Tumbling, and Team.
2020 Roster
The Lions squad consists of one junior, three sophomores, and 14 freshmen.
Saint Leo welcomed in three transfers
Kyah Draper (Alderson Broaddus),
Amyia Mason (Alderson Broaddus), and
Taylor Watson (Florida Atlantic) while sophomore
Alexis Schlitt joined the team after spending a season on the cheerleading team during her freshman year of college.
2020 Coaching Staff
Allie Williams was hired on Nov. 9, 2018 as the programs first head coach and will lead the team to six meets this season including a matchup with, five-time National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) National Champions, Baylor.
Williams, a former standout student-athlete at Baylor and 2017 graduate of Baylor University, came to the Lions after a stint at Converse College as an assistant coach. Williams won the 2017 NCATA national championship in pyramid twist heat while she won three championship titles her sophomore campaign in heat one and two of pyramid.
Joely Smith serves as the assistant coach for the A&T program after completing her collegiate career at Hawaii Pacific University where she was a member of the 2017 Sharks National Quarterfinals team.
2020 Schedule
Saint Leo will be on the road for the first two meets, Feb. 2 at Limestone and March 9 in Clinton, S.C. against Presbyterian College and Baylor University. The Lions will wrap up away meets on March 12 at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. before hosting three meets to close out the inaugural season.
The Green and Gold will welcome King on March 15 as the first-ever home meet at 2 p.m. before Presbyterian (March 28) and Limestone (April 4) come to the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
