Lions Conclude Green and Gold Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Saturday marked freshman Pierre Galbourdin's second career collegiate track meet and he came away with his second-consecutive victory as he led the Saint Leo men's and women's track programs at the Green and Gold Invitational in Birmingham, Ala. Galbourdin, who won the 5,000m at last weekend's Emory Crossplex Showdown with a meet record time, took home the 3,000m title Saturday at the Green and Gold Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama Birmingham.

TOP PERFORMERS
SAINT LEO MEN:
  • Freshman Pierre Galbourdin won the 3,000m race by over 16 seconds Saturday as he continued his red-hot start. Galbourdin crossed the finish line in 8:45.21. Junior Tadgh McGinty finished four spots back in fifth with a time of 18:23.44.
  • Senior Tyler Pantley and freshman Douglas Gray both posted top-10 finishes in the 5,000m. Pantley took sixth in 17:01.04 while Gray finished in seventh after crossing the line in 18:23.44.
  • Freshman Fabio Fornarelli also picked up a top-10 finish as he took seventh in the 800m after completing the distance in 1:59.84.
  • Junior Brandon Cruz brought home the only other top-15 finish for the Lions as he placed 13th in the mile with a time of 5:02.12.
 
SAINT LEO WOMEN:
  • Sophomore Aoife Mahony led the women with a sixth place finish in the 800m. The Kerry, Ireland native posted a time of 2:19.60. Sophomore Kerry Reilly came in six spots back in 12th as she stopped the clock at 2:35.09.
  • Sophomore Georgia Clode and freshman Amanda Bohm were the only other top-15 finishers as they placed 11th and 13th, respectively, in the mile. Clode crossed the finish line in 5:48.43 while Bohm broke the tape at 5:52.39.
 
UP NEXT:
Saint Leo will stay in Birmingham, Ala. as the Lions will compete in the KMS Invitational Sunday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
