Lions Split at Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The nationally-ranked Saint Leo men's and women's swimming teams split Friday afternoon at Lynn. The 21st-ranked Saint Leo men's team defeated the Fighting Knights 174-80 while the 23rd-ranked women fell to the Knights 173-89. The men won all but two events on the day while the women brought home one individual victory and one relay title.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The meet consisted of 28 events including 14 for the men and 14 for the women
  • The Saint Leo men won 12 of the 14 events while Lynn matched the total on the women's side also winning 12 of the 14 events.
  • The Lion men posted three podium sweeps on the day including taking first, second and third in the 200 free, 200 back and 100 fly.
 
MEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Hampus Lovinge continues to shine in dual meets as he was a one-man wrecking crew. The Norrkoping, Sweden native won three individual events and was part of a winning relay. He took home the titles in the 100 back (52.09), 200 back (1:53.68) and 200 IM (1:56.15). He was also joined by junior Kosta Mitrovic, senior Christian Cioffi and freshman Devin Green in the 200 medley relay as the quartet won in 1:36.26.
  • Mitrovic earned a pair of individual titles and the previously mentioned relay win on Friday. The Serbian earned victories in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. He won the 100 in 1:00.18 and took the 200 in 2:11.12.
  • Sophomore Matthew Daniel posted two wins as he finished first in the 1,000 free and 500 free. He touched the wall in 9:33.86 in the 1,000 before stopping the clock at 4:41.23 in the 500.
  • Cioffi posted an individual victory in the 100 free (46.97) while participating in a pair of winning relays. He opened the meet in the 200 medley relay and closed the meet with teammates seniors Juan Patino and Michael Southward and junior Fridtjov Mork. The group posted a winning time of 3:11.21.
  • Our final two individual winners were Green and Patino. Green won the 200 free (1:44.64) while also swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team while Patino won the 100 fly (53.96) while also earning a team win in the 400 free relay.
 
WOMEN'S TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Sophomore Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello was the lone individual event winner for the Lions. She took home the victory in the 1,000 free by touching the wall in 10:54.58. She also participated on the winning 400 free relay squad with seniors Matalin Shaver, Zofia Pilarska and Annie Lindstrom. The group punched in at 3:39.06.
  • Bonsanti Feniello also took home second place finishes in the 200 free (1:57.86) and 500 free (5:10.85).
  • Junior Paulina Majszutowicz posted a pair of individual second place finishes while also teaming up with freshman Mariana Navarrete, Pilarska and Lindstrom to take second in the 200 medley relay (1:51.13). Majszutowicz took second in both the 100 (1:08.41) and 200 breast (2:31.38) events.
  • Sophomore Cassidi TenEyck was the only other Lion to post multiple second place individual finishes as she took second in the 200 back and 200 IM. She finished in 2:17.93 in the back before touching in 2:18.07 in the IM.
  • The only other two individual second place showings came in the 100 back by Navarrete (1:01.72) and in the 50 free by Lindstrom (25.15).
 
UP NEXT:
Saint Leo will return to action Friday, January 17 as the Lions travel to Melbourne, Fla. for a dual against Florida Tech.
