Swimming Teams Receive Spring Academic Team Honors

Jun 27, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swimming teams were both recognized for their success in the classroom as the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) selected a record 777 teams from 480 institutions to the Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2019 semester. The teams were selected by the CSCAA's Scholar All-America committee on the basis of their Spring grade point averages.

The Saint Leo men finished the Spring semester with a 3.20 GPA while the women posted a impressive 3.45 GPA.

For the third time in its history Emmanuel College led all Division II women's programs, earning a 3.80 for the semester. The Bluegrass Mountain Conference placed nine teams on the honor roll, one more than the Great Lakes Valley Conference. In total, eighty-three teams met the mark, four more than last Fall's record of seventy-nine. The Sunshine State Conference had seven team represented on the list including Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Lynn, Nova Southeastern, Rollins, Saint Leo and Tampa.

The University of Bridgeport, led the men's Division II rankings for the second-consecutive semester. Regrettably, the Purple Knights won't be able to go for a third as the University eliminated swimming following this year's NCAA Championships. In total, fifty-three men's teams were selected and like the women, the Bluegrass Mountain Conference led the way with nine selections, one more than the GLVC. The Sunshine State Conference had six teams represented on the list including Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern, Rollins, Saint Leo and Tampa.

To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the Spring semester and maintain a roster of 12 or more student-athletes.

Members of the CSCAA Scholar All-America Committee include Paul Richards, Chair (Dickinson), Brent Summers (Willamette), Gwynn Harrison (Bridgewater), Hollie Bonewit-Cron (Miami-OH), Jason Hite (Indianapolis), Jonathan Jordan (Lincoln College), Jerod Simek (Truman State), Milania Socha (Dartmouth), Nikki Rosen (Davis & Elkins), RC Weston (Alfred State).

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming & diving at the collegiate level.
