#18 Saint Leo Closed Out Play at the National Championship Wednesday

DANIELS, W.Va. – No. 18 Saint Leo men's golf finished the 2018-19 season with a 15th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship at The Resort at Glades Springs at 898 (+34) for the 54-hole tournament.
 
Freshman Dave Longhini paced the Green and Gold for the tournament with a score of one-over 217 after a final round 71 (-1) on the par-72, 7,114-yard course. Longhini sank seven birdies on the day to propel himself up 14 spots over the final 18 holes to finish tied for 21st.
 
Sophomore Oliver Lilliedahl carded a 79 (+7) Wednesday and finished 64th at 225 (+9). Saint Leo senior Nilo Sanchez wrapped up his career in the Green and Gold with a final round 75 (+3).
 
Sophomores Alberto Castagnara and Antoine Beaupre-Vachon rounded out the five golfers for the Lions in the field with a 94th place finish at 234 (+18) and 100th at 238 (+22), respectively.
 
As a group, the Lions made 204 par's and 36 birdies throughout the 54-holes while Longhini led the way with 12 birdies and 30 par's over 54-holes.

No. 1 Barry, No. 2 Lynn, No. 3 West Florida, No. 4 Florida Souther, No. 42 Trevecca Nazarene, No. 25 Arkansas Tech, No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay, and No. 5 Lincoln Memorial advance to the NCAA medal/match play on Thursday, May 23 for quarterfinal and semifinal play. The final two teams will square off on Friday, May 24 for the national championship. Matchups for the quarters will be Barry versus Lincoln Memorial, Lynn versus Cal State Monterey Bay, West Florida versus Arkansas Tech, and Florida Southern versus Trevecca Nazarene. 

The Moccains' Michael VanDerLaan took home the individual national title by turning in a nine-under 207 for the tournament with rounds of 72-69-66 to defeat No. 1 Jorge Garcia of Barry by two strokes.
