LAKELAND, Fla. – For the second time this season, the Saint Leo beach volleyball team took on Florida Southern. The Lions won the first meeting 3-2 at home but the Moccasins took the second stage 3-2 in Lakeland Tuesday afternoon.
FSC jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 21-14, 21-17 victory at No. 2. The lead increased to 2-0 after the No. 4 match went to three sets but the Mocs pulled out the 21-17, 17-21, 16-14 victory.
The Lions began to mount a comeback as
Amber Lake and
Nina Vattovaz teamed up to win at No. 1 21-17, 21-8 followed by
Arlaina Stephenson and
Annabella Arcari taking the No. 5 match 21-14, 21-15.
The match came down to No. 3 where the Mocs won 21-17, 21-6 to clinch their 11
th victory of the season.
Florida Southern improved to 11-11 in 2019 while the Lions of Saint Leo fell to 8-10.
The Lions will close out the regular season this Thursday, April 11 at 4 p.m. as they travel to the University of Tampa. The Spartans defeated the Lions 3-2 last week to end Saint Leo's perfect home record.
