BRADENTON, Fla. – The third-seeded Saint Leo Lions' efforts fell short against the second-seeded Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday in the Sunshine State Conference Championship Semifinals. Saint Leo grabbed an early 1-0 lead after doubles play but Lynn put together a 4-1 comeback.
Saint Leo (19-5) won the second and third double flights. Lynn (21-0) grabbed the victory in the first flight. In second flight,
Nina Furmaniak and
Madeleine Gauthier topped their opponents in a tiebreaker; 7-6 (7-0). Third doubles duo,
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Georgia Dobell, battled for a long-fought 7-6 (9-7) tiebreaker victory to clinch the point.
Lynn responded generating a comeback in singles play. The Fighting Knights took the first, second, sixth and fifth matches.
Saint Leo continues competition on Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m. facing the first-seeded Barry Buccaneers in the SSC third-place match. Barry fell to the fourth-seed Nova Southeastern Sharks following the Lions match with the Fighting Knights. Last meeting on March 31 in Miami Shores, Fla., Saint Leo was blanked by Barry; 7-0.
