Men's Golf Headed to Howey-in-the-Hills for NCAA Regionals

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men's golf team returns to the NCAA postseason for the sixth-consecutive year and will compete in the South/Southeast Regional at Mission Inn Resort and Club starting May 9. The Lions were ranked No. 7 in the South Region, joining six other Sunshine State Conference members in the Regional.
 
Saint Leo will make the short trip to Mission Inn, just outside Orlando and will play 56-holes of golf over the course of three days. Three automatic-bids are up for grabs to advance to the NCAA Championship in Denver, Colo. May 20-24. The South/Southeast Regional features 20 teams and eight individuals, including the Sunshine State Conference Champions, Barry University as the top-seed. Also competing from the SSC is Lynn (2), Nova Southeastern (4), Florida Southern (5), Florida Tech (6) and the host institution of the regional event, Rollins (8).
 
Led by head coach Chris Greenwood, in his sixth season, the Lions have advanced to the NCAA Championships as a team in three of the past five years. The Lions were national quarterfinalists in 2018 and claimed the NCAA DII National Championship in 2016.
 
Saint Leo is fresh off a fifth-place finish in the SSC Championships and are led by all-conference honoree Alberto Castagnara.  The Pordenone, Italy native, leads the Lions on the year with a 72.17 stroke average in 30 rounds of golf and has six top-10 finishes. The sophomore is currently ranked 29th in Division II.
