Women’s Track Continues Strong Season at Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's track team competed in the Hurricane Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Miami Saturday. The Lions competed in four events on the day with freshman Paige Patterson posting the best overall finish with a 10th place showing in the 1,500m.
 
Patterson was one of five Lions in the 1,500m as she stopped the clock in 4:46.63 to earn her 10th place finish. Junior Ashley Lindeman was right on her heels as she finished two spots back in 12th at 4:50.27. Senior Noemi Anaya picked up a top-20 finish as she placed 17th after crossing the line in 4:58.46. Freshman Caitlin Lewandowski and sophomore AnaPaula Rios Rosales were the final two Lion finishers as they took 26th (6:08.12) and 27th (6:11.50), respectively.
 
Junior Fatima Abu-Rumman and senior Heidi-Jay Churchill earned top-15 finishes in the 5,000m. Abu-Ramman crossed the line in 12th with a time of 21:56.30 while Churchill came in two spots back in 14th after stopping the clock in 23:04.12.
 
Five Lions competed in the 800m led by freshman Aoife Mahony. Mahony took 14th in the event with a time of 2:17.21. Patterson was the next Lion to cross the finish line as she added a top-20 finish to her haul. The rookie crossed the line in 20th at 2:21.70. Lindeman was once again right on Patterson's pace as she took 21st in 2:23.21. Anaya and Lewandowski rounded out the Lions in the event as they took 27th (2:34.66) and 28th (2:55.53), respectively.
 
The final two Lions to hit the track on Saturday were freshmen Maryleslie Javier and Tayler Wright. The two competed in the 100m and finished 54th and 55th, respectively. Javier stopped the clock at 14.23 while Wright crossed the line in 14.40.
 
The Lions will close out the 2019 season next weekend at the South Florida Collegiate hosted by USF.
