INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Junior Henrik Dahrendorff etched his name firmly in the Saint Leo swimming record books Saturday as he achieved a feat that no other Lions swimmer has been able to accomplish in the programs storied history, he became the first NCAA National Champion. The Beckum, Germany native overcame a heart-breaking finish in the 100 breaststroke on Friday to claim the top honors in the 200 breast on Saturday.

Dahrendorff left nothing to chance on Saturday after seeing one of his dreams dashed on Friday due to a stroke violation in the 100 breast prelims.  On Saturday he led from the beginning and never looked back. The junior posted the top time in the prelims and then led the finals race from start to finish despite seeing a late surge by Giacomo Viazzo of Wingate.

The claimed the championship with a Saint Leo record setting time of 1:56.09 which surpassed his previous program best which he set earlier this season.

Dahrendorff is now one of three Saint Leo student-athletes who can call themselves individual National Champions joining Marie Coors of women's golf and Hugo Bernard of men's golf.

Sophomore Paulina Majszutowicz also competed on Saturday, just missing out on a trip to the finals. She finished two spots outside of the top-16 with an 18th place showing in the 200 breast. The Szczecin, Poland native clocked in at 2:18.50 in the prelims to just miss the cut.
