SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 3 Saint Leo women's tennis team blanked the Ferris State Bulldogs, who is receiving votes in the latest ITA national poll. The 7-0 non-conference decision returned the Lions to the win column while moving their overall record to 8-2.
The Lions swept doubles action to gain the 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Doubles Flight No. 1
Kristyna Jurkova and
Andrea Ivanovic earned a 6-3 decision while Flight No. 2
Nina Furmaniak and
Madeleine Gauthier handed in a clean 6-0 win. Flight No. 3
Marta Vicens Miquel and
Georgia Dobell finished their opponents 6-1.
Vicens Miquel continued her work in first singles going 6-1, 6-4. Furmaniak took over second singles duties, winning the match 6-2, 6-3 to raise her season singles record to 8-1.
Ivanovic recorded a 6-3, 6-4 third singles win. Gauthier won a long three-set battle in fourth singles to keep the Lions slate clean. Gautheir registered a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
Nastasia Jedrychowsk handed in a 6-2, 6-2 fifth singles decision followed by
Anna Marija Bukina who earned a 6-1, 6-0 sixth singles win.
Saint Leo returns to action on Thursday, March 14 at 3 p.m. meeting Rockhurst in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus tennis courts.
