#12 Lions Tied for Second After Opening Round at Southeastern Intercollegiate

VALDOSTA, Ga. - No. 12 Saint Leo University men's golf is tied for second after the opening 18-holes Sunday morning on the 7,365-yard par-72 course at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club with an even-par 288. The Lions find themselves tied with no. 1 Barry and two strokes behind clubhouse leader no. 3 West Florida. 

Alberto Castagnara paced the Green and Gold with a four-under 68 to sit in a two-way tie for second with the host's Matt Johnson at 68. Castagnara sank five birdies on the day to find himself one stroke behind clubhouse leader, Juan Jose Guerra (67). 

Nilo Sanchez, who followed Castagnara's five birdie performance with four of his own, sits tied for 10th at one-under 71. Simon Knutsson shot a one-over 73 ahead of Dave Longhini's 76 (+4) and Oliver Lilliedahl's 77 (+5). Knutsson will start round two Monday tied for 23rd as Longhini is tied for 55th and Lilliedahl 66th. 

In all, the Lions five sank four birdies on the front nine and 10 on the back nine for 14 total where Castagnara, Lilliedahl and Longhini all birdied the par-5 12th. 

The Lions will take the course at 10 a.m. off of hole no. 1 for round two of the Southeastern Intercollegiate on March 11 as playing partners with no. 1 Barry and no. 3 West Florida.
