Lions in Action at Panther Invite and Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Saint Leo men's and women's swimming teams were in action Sunday with a pair competing at the Sheraton/Le Meridien Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C. with the rest of the student-athletes taking part in the Panther Invite in Melbourne, Fla. The Lions brought home eight total top-five finishes in Melbourne.
 
Senior Annie Lindstrom led the contingent in Charlotte as she took 14th in the 100 freestyle. She touched the wall in 52.77 to secure her spot. Graduate student Yann Corbel was the only other Lion in action at the Fall Frenzy as he took 25th in the 1,650 freestyle while stopping the clock at 16:49.09.
 
Sophomore Vittoria Bonsanti Feniello of the women's team picked up a second place finish in the 1,650 freestyle to help pace the contingent at the Panther Invite. She clocked in at 17:36.87.
 
Sophomore Carolina Walch also picked up a second place finish for the women as she took runner-up in the 200 breaststroke. She touched the wall in 2:21.94. Freshman Mariana Navarrete also picked up a top-five finish in the event as she took fifth in 2:26.92.
 
The men's 400 freestyle relay team consisting of junior Fridtjov Mork, senior Christian Cioffi, senior Juan Patino and senior Michael Southward also earned a second place finish. The quartet clocked in at 3:04.32.
 
Southward brought home a third place finish in the 100 freestyle as he stopped the clock at 46.12. Patino finished one spot back in 46.49.
 
Sophomore Hampus Lovinge was the final individual to earn a top-five finish as he took fourth in the 200 backstroke in 1:52.42.
 
The women's 400 freestyle relay squad took home fourth in 3:36.19. Bonsanti Feniello, Navarrete, senior Matalin Shaver and senior Zofia Pilarska teamed up to lead the way for Saint Leo.   
 
The Lions will be back in action Monday, Dec. 16 as they host Florida Tech in their 2019-20 home opener. The meet is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
