#19 Lions Suffer First Dual Meet Loss of the Season

Nov 02, 2019

LAKELAND, Fla. – The 19th-ranked Saint Leo men's swimming team faced its first ranked opponent of the 2019-20 season as the Lions traveled to 16th-ranked Florida Southern. The Lions won seven events, tied for first in another but it was not enough to top the Mocs at home, 136.5-125.5.

Sophomore Hampus Lovinge and junior Kosta Mitrovic were the only Lions to win more than one individual event as they each took home two event victories. Lovinge took the top spot in the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. He topped the field in the 100 with a time of 51.14 before winning the 200 in 1:55.42. Freshman Devin Green joined Lovinge in the 200 to complete a one-two finish as he touched in 1:57.87.

Mitovic did his work in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The newcomer took first in the 100 with a time of 58.84 before winning the 200 in 2:09.23.

Green finished atop the podium in the 200 freestyle as he tied with the Florida Southern swimmer with a time of 1:42.58. The rookie also teamed up with senior Christian Cioffi, junior Fridtjov Mork and senior Matija Rafaj to win the 400 freestyle relay in 3:07.73.

The Lions began the meet with a relay victory in the 200 medley. Lovinge, Mitrovic, Cioffi and senior Juan Patino teamed up to turn in a time of 1:35.05.

The only other winner for the Lions was graduate student Yann Corbel who won the 1,000 freestyle after touching the wall in 9:42.17.

The Lions will be back in action the weekend of November 22-24. A group of Lions will travel to the Fall Frenzy Invitational in Charlotte, N.C. while another group will participate in the Panther Invite hosted by Florida Tech.
