MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. –
Bas Vermeulen and
Oliver Lilliedahl won their head-to-head matchups to give No. 15 Saint Leo two points in the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals Thursday at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals – The Fighting Joe course. The Lions fell 3-2 to Sunshine State Conference foe No. 3 Barry.

Saint Leo saw
Riley Goss close the gap against his opponent but finish just shy of all-square shooting a 73 in his Green and Gold finale. Goss held a one stroke lead for the first five holes and for the eighth and ninth of the front nine before falling behind on the back nine.

Alberto Castagnara dropped his matchup by three strokes, 77-74. Castagnara matched his opponent on the first hole before falling behind on the second hole before evening the score on the fourth with a birdie. Barry's Kyle Brey took the lead on the sixth and was able to hold on for the last 12 holes to give the Buccaneers its second point.

Bas Vermeulen claimed an early two-stroke lead and finished the front nine up by two. Vermeulen held a three-stroke advantage four times before the matchup was all-square on the 13th. Going into the 18th even, Vermeulen birdied the final hole to award the Lions their first point. Vermeulen carded a 74 (+2) to close out the quarterfinals.

Simon Knutsson took a quick lead and held a two-stroke lead through three before a double bogey on the fourth saw the matchup come all-square. Knutsson held the deficit to one stroke for four holes on the back nine before finishing four-strokes off with a two-over 74.

Oliver Lilliedahl continued to show dominance on the course carding a five-under 67 to win his matchup by five strokes, 67-72. Lilliedahl claimed the lead on the second hole and eventually pushed it to eight strokes on the 13th through 15th.

Florida Southern defeated Lincoln-Memorial 4-0-1 to advance to the semifinals and take on West Florida who won its matchup over UIndy 3-1-1. Barry will face Lynn in the semifinals after having tied Arkansas Tech 2-2-1, and advancing with a stroke advantage.
