Women’s Swimming Sweeps Season Opening Meet

Newcomers lead the Lions in season opener

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's swimming team earned a pair of team victories Friday afternoon as they downed both Lynn and Florida Tech. The Lions edged out the Fighting Knights 128-124 while the Lions dominated the Panthers 151-100.
 
Saint Leo won seven of the 14 events Friday afternoon as junior transfer Julia Chmielewska and sophomore transfer Paulina Majszutowicz each won a pair of individual events and also teamed up to take home the 200 medley relay.
 
Chmielewska won both the 100 and 200 backstroke. The Kartuzy, Poland native took the 100 in 1:01.87 while posting a victory in the 200 in 2:13.79. Majszutowicz did her work in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The Szczecin, Poland native posted a time of 1:04.68 in the 100 while touching in 2:21.10 in the 200.
 
The duo teamed up with juniors Annie Lindstrom and Matalin Shaver to capture the 200 medley relay crown in 1:48.85.
 
Lindstrom was the only other individual winner as she won the 50 freestyle in 24.30.
 
Lindstrom, freshman Lauren Boos, junior Zofia Pilarska and Shaver teamed up to win the final event of the night, the 400 freestyle relay, in 3:38.81.
 
The Lions will be back in action next Saturday at 11 a.m. as they take on Florida Southern in a dual meet at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center.
