SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's swimming team opens up its 2018-19 campaign Friday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center by hosting Sunshine State Conference foes Lynn and Florida Tech. The Lions went 6-2 last season in dual meets and look to continue that trend in 2018-19.
Friday afternoon's events begin at 3 p.m., with seating available poolside. Admission is free to all those who attend.
Saint Leo welcomes back two swimmers who earned College Swimming Coaches Association of America All-America honors as season ago and has several newcomers and returners who will be looking to add their names to that list. Juniors
Annie Lindstrom and
Matalin Shaver were part of the All-America 200 freestyle relay team a season ago and they each earned honorable mention honors as part of the 400 freestyle relay.
Senior
Sidney Martin also returns after a pair of top-10 finishes at last season's Sunshine State Conference Championships. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio native, took ninth in the 400 individual medley while placing 10
th in the 200 individual medley.
The women also have seven newcomers who will look to make a splash in the pool this season including a pair of transfers,
Julia Chmielewska (Chowan University) and
Paulina Majszutowicz (East Carolina University), and five freshmen,
Erika Baumgardner,
Lauren Boos,
Caitlin Laviano,
Ashly Smith and
Carolina Walch.
