SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 5 Seed Saint Leo men's tennis team fell to the No. 4 Seed Lynn Fighting Knights, 5-2, in the NCAA South Regional I at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex in Pensacola, Fla.
In doubles action, Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot dominated No. 1 doubles. The duo downed Mehdi Laalej and Florian Clemares, 8-1, giving the Lions the first point.
Lynn's Kay Bartmann and Jose Porfirio took down Francisco Aparicio and Oskar Nurmio at No. 2, 8-2, to even up the match score.
The third point was taken by Lynn as well, but this time in a battle. Lynn's Jean-Baptiste Mateo and Tristan Houle took down Jaime Bueno and Willem Van Den Akker, 9-8 (10-8). The two duos fought in the tie-break, with ties at 4-, and 6-6, before the Fighting Knights took the final score 10-8.
The Fighting Knights took a huge advantage as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead after taking No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Porfirio earned the first singles point for Lynn, taking a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Charles Benet.
Houle scored the second point, topping Aparicio, 6-2, 6-3, at Flight No. 4.
Bueno was able to bring it to a 4-2 match score after taking down Bartmann for the third time this season. Bueno took Flight No. 3, 6-2, 6-4.
However, Lynn took the match with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win at Flight No. 6, as Clemares took down Oskar Nurmio to clinch the match.
The Lion wrap up the 2017 season with a 13-5 record, a second place regular season finish in the SSC, a third place SSC Tournament finish, and the Lions are currently ranked No. 6 in the nation.
