#2-seeded Men's tennis offs Florida Tech, 5-1, in SSC Tourney

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team, the No. 2 seed, took down the No. 7-seeded Florida Tech, 5-1, in the opening round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., on Thursday morning.

Saint Leo opened up the match with a 2-1 lead following doubles.

Jaime Bueno and Willem Van Den Akker opened things up with an 8-5 win over Majed Alshaikh and Wade Ball at Flight No. 3.

Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot added the Lions' second point with an 8-6 win over Aria Canadell Solana and Ricardo Corona at Flight No. 1.

Florida Tech earned their lone point of the match with a 9-8 (7-5) grind of a win at Fight No. 2 over Oskar Nurmio and Francisco Aparicio.

The Lions entered singles needing just three points to close out the match.

Bueno claimed the first single point for the Lions as he won Flight No. 3, 6-0, 6-3, over Gerard Carpinell.

The fourth point for the Green & Gold came when Aparicio took down Alshaikh, 6-4, 6-2, at Flight No. 4.

Suillerot clinched the match for the Lions with a 6-3, 7-5 win at Flight No. 2.

Saint Leo is now 9-4 against Florida Tech in the last 10 season, and are on a nine-match winning streak against the Panthers.

With the win, the Lions move on the SSC Tournament Semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m. Saint Leo will take on No. 3 seed Lynn, who took down Palm Beach Atlantic, 5-0, in the Quarterfinals.
