SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team needed to fight back from a 2-1 deficit to the visiting Embry-Riddle Eagles to take the match, 6-3, on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Leo saw Katherine Zaatini and Fabiola Cardenas pair up to earn the Lions lone doubles point by earning the 8-0 victory at the No. 3 flight.
But it was the Eagles that entered singles with the advantage, 2-1.
Saint Leo would go on to win five of the six singles flights to take the game.
Madeleine Gauthier took the No. 5 flight with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over Kathryn Bock, while Kristyna Jurkova added a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3.
Marine Beugre-Guyot claimed the match at No. 1, 7-5, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, Cardenas used a comeback effort to earn her point as she lost the first set, 6-3. She bounced back to take the next two, 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 2, Maja Pindelska also needed three sets. She took the opener by the score of 6-4 but dropped the second, 6-2. She then went on the claim the deciding set, 6-2 to earn the point.
The Eagles claimed their third point of the afternoon in the No. 6 flight.
Saint Leo returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 at 3 p.m. as they head to Tampa.
