Men's tennis tops St. Thomas, 9-0

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team topped NAIA foe St. Thomas, 9-0, in non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

The Bobcats pushed the Lions in doubles, forcing three close sets.

The Lions' No. 1 pair of Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot took the point, 8-6, and Francisco Aparicio and Charles Benet won No. 2's by the same score.

In their first doubles match as a pair, Willem Van Den Akker and Chadi Omeis took the No. 3 point, 9-8.

However, singles were a different story as Saint Leo won all six singles flights by a decent margin. Suillerot led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, while Aparicio added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Grinberg won both his set by the score of 6-1, while Chadi Omeis had a battle at No. 6, 6-4, 7-5. Both Van Den Akker and Bennet won by retirement.

Saint Leo improves to 4-1 on the year.

The Lions host DI opponent Valparaiso on Wednesday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
