Women’s tennis opens competition at Rollins’ C.L. Varner Invitational

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team enjoyed a solid first day of competition at the Rollins College C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational.

All but one of the six Saint Leo competitors in the three singles brackets continued their march through the championship side of the bracket, with junior Madeleine Gauthier and junior Andrada Gordan winning in straight sets by lop-sided margins.

In doubles competition, the duo of Marta Vincens Miquel and Gordan won both their A Flight matches, and earned a spot in Saturday's championship.

Competition in the Varner Memorial Invitational resumes on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 8:00 a.m.

A FLIGHT – Vincens Miquel/Gordan def. Kallmunzerova/Parkin (Lynn), 9-7 (advance to championship)
A FLIGHT – Bohnenkamp/Zuza (Barry) def. Jurkova/Gauthier, 8-6
A FLIGHT – Jurkova/Gauthier def. Selby/Field (Eckerd), 8-2 (advance to fifth-place match)
