SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo sophomores Brittany Creamer and Samantha Tyler were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ 5 Softball First Team
The Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. As the only two sophomores on the team, Brittany Creamer and Samantha Tyler represent the Lions and are two of 12 from the Sunshine State Conference and their provisional members on the 13 player team.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Tyler is 7-1 in the circle this season for the Lions in 11 appearances. Tyler has six complete games in her 61 innings pitched with 60 strikeouts for a 6.89 strikeout per game average. As part of the best pitching staff in the nation with a team earned run average (ERA) of 0.93, Tyler owns a 1.26 ERA as a history major carrying a 3.65 grade point average (GPA) inside the classroom.
A native of Clearwater, Fla., Creamer has started all 45 games at shortstop for the Lions this season with a .298 batting average, .382 on-base-percentage and a .411 slugging percentage. Creamer has scored 25 runs and is 1-for-2 in stolen bases. The righty has hit seven doubles, two triples and one homerun on her way to driving in 23 RBI. Creamer owns a .928 fielding percentage and has a 3.96 GPA in the classroom as a management major.
To qualify for the CoSIDA Academic All-District, the nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in BOTH undergrad and graduate work. She must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at your institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full calendar year at your institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games in the position listed on the nomination form. Members may nominate student-athletes from their own institution only.
Saint Leo continues play in the NCAA South Regional today, Friday, May 6th at 3:30pm CT/4:30pm ET when they take on Tuskegee in an elimination game at the UNA Softball complex in Florence, Alabama.
