#2 Lions open NCAA Championships with 5-1 win

Donate towards the Lions' trip to Denver

DENVER, Colo. – The No.2 Saint Leo women's tennis team took care of business on Wednesday morning in Denver, Colo., as they took down No. 24 University of Indianapolis, 5-1, after three quick wins in singles play.

After a 2-1 lead in doubles action, the Lions saw Natalia Siedliska return to singles play for the first time in over a month.

Siedliska's return was dominant as she cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles to give the Lions their third point of the day.

Her performance was capped off by wins from Saint Leo's two seniors, who are relishing their second trip to the NCAA Championships.

Coralie Pesenti added the fourth point for the Lions as she took No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-2, before fellow senior Pauline Helgesson clinched the match at No. 5 singles with a powerful performance. Helgesson won 6-0, 6-1, to take the match.

In doubles play, Helgesson paired with Marine Beugre-Guyot to claim the first Lion's point of the day as they took No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

The Greyhounds evened the score at 1-1 with an 8-4 win at No. 1 singles.

Siedliska and Pesenti broke the tie with an 8-6 win at No. 2 singles, sending the Lions into singles with the 2-1 lead.

Saint Leo will take on No. 18 Southwest Baptist, who took down NYIT in the Round of 16, 5-2. Southwest Baptist is located in Bolivar, Mo., and it apart of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. They are currently 25-3 on the season, and feature the No. 13 doubles pairing in the nation.
