BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 3 Saint Leo women's tennis team took down No.5 Lynn University, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon, behind a gutsy performance from senior Isabella Robbiani in the No. 2 singles.
With the Lions holding a 4-3 lead, and the match coming down to the results of the No. 2 and 6 singles matches, Robbiani took charge and in a marathon match. The senior came out with the 'W.'
After falling in the first set of the match, 7-6, Robbiani rebounded to take the second, 6-3. Robbiani trailed in the third and deciding set 4-1 before deciding that she "just wanted to win," and she turned around the match to with 7-6 (7-2) in tiebreak, to give the Lions a 5-3 lead and seal the match.
The Lions opened things up with a 2-1 lead after doubles action, despite starting in a 0-1 hole with a loss in the No. 3 doubles spot. Marine Beugre-Guyot and Pauline Helgesson evened things up with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles, before the No. 1 doubles match fell the Lions way as Natalia Siedliska and Anastasia Wagner took a hard-fought 9-8 win.
Lynn brought the score to 2-2 with a win in the No. 3 singles, but in a battle of nationally-ranked individuals, No. 2 Siedliska topped No. 6 Diana Bogolii, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles spot to give the Lions a 3-2 lead.
Beugre-Goyot followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles spot to bring the lead to 4-2. However, a Fighting Knight win in the No. 5 singles brought the match to 4-3, leading to Robbiani's marathon match that sealed the win for the Lions.
Lynn earned their final point in the No. 6 singles.
Saint Leo will host Rollins on Wednesday, April 6 at 3 p.m.
