#7 Lions spilt doubleheader at Rollins to end regular season

WINTER PARK, Fla. – No. 7 Saint Leo softball went 1-1 in the final doubleheader of the regular season with Rollins College at Rollins College Softball Stadium at Martin Luther King Jr. Park on Saturday, April 23rd. Despite going 1-1 on the final day, the 2016 team broke the program record for most wins in the Sunshine State Conference in a single season with 21. 

With the spilt, Saint Leo ends the regular season with a 38-6 and 21-3 mark in the Sunshine State Conference. Rollins moves to 35-13-1, 15-6 SSC. 

Alana Tabel picked up the win and loss on the day as she won game one, 1-0, and lost game two, 2-0, to move to 14-2 on the season. Stephanie Adkins made a relief appearance in game two and pitched two innings.

GAME ONE – No. 7 Saint Leo 1, Rollins 0
Saint Leo snapped a four game skid with a 1-0 victory over Rollins in the second game of the series on Saturday, April 23rd. With the win, the Lions improve to 38-5 and 21-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. With the 21st victory in the SSC, the 2016 team now holds the most conference wins in a season in program history. The previous record was 20 and that was held three times - 1995, 2002, 2013.

Alana Tabel picked up her 14th win of the year after pitching all seven innings and gave up one hit and two walks.

Rachael Heath caught fire in the box as she went 2-for-3 for the game with the lone run scored as Samantha Ohmie had the RBI on that run.

It took six innings between the two teams before a run was scored. Heath led off the inning with a bunt to the pitcher and beat out the throw. Following reaching base with the single, Heath stole second before Ciera Schumaker gave herself up and allowed Heath to get to third. Ohmie stepped to the plate with Heath at third and one out and hit a sacrifice fly to center field which propelled the Lions to a 1-0 victory.

Tabel walked into the circle in the bottom of the seventh and shut the door on the Tars. Tabel recorded two quick outs, walked two and got the third out with a ground out to Brittany Creamer.

GAME TWO – Rollins 2, No. 7 Saint Leo 0
Rollins won the series grudge match and took game two of the doubleheader 2-0. Rachael Heath, Michelle George and Sommer Pollard all recorded a hit in the game. 

Alana Tabel got the start in game two for Saint Leo and pitched 4.0 innings. Tabel's final line in game two was four innings, three hits, two runs and two walks. Stephanie Adkins came in for a relief appearance in the bottom of the fifth inning. Adkins pitched two innings and gave up two hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Rollins took the lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run homerun from Chelsea Reed. Sid Masso led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball. Reed stepped in with one out and hit the 0-1 pitch over the centerfield wall to put the Tars up 2-0.

Rollins held off the Lions and went on for the 2-0 victory to win the series 2-1.
