SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 9-0 sweep of the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.
The Lions celebrated Senior Day for Alex Theiler, Guillaume Vanelven, Egor Panyushkin, and Fons Verberne.
Saint Leo started the day with a 3-0 lead after doubles. Theiler teamed with freshman Alberto Barroso-Campos for a 9-7 win at No. 1 singles. Panyushkin teamed with sophomore Jaime Bueno for a quick 8-1 win. While Vanelven teamed with Oskar Nurmio for an 8-5 win.
The three seniors who are able to play also added wins in singles. Theiler claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Panyushkin snagged a dominate 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3's. Vanelven was the last to finish with a lengthy match, winning 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 in tiebreak.
The Lions also added wins from Barroso-Campos at No. 1's with a 6-4, 6-3 score, while Bueno took No. 4 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-0.
Elliot Carnello took No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 score.
The Lions finished the regular season with a 20-1 record.
Saint Leo will play the winner of Florida Southern and Rollins on Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. in the Sunshine State Conference tournament.
