SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team topped at Top-10 opponent for the second time this week as the Lion took down No. 5 Lander, 5-3.
Saint Leo saw Jaime Bueno seal the fifth point for the third-straight match, taking the No. 4 singles spot, 7-6 (1), 6-1.
The Lions entered singles action with a 2-1 lead after doubles. Alex Theiler and Alberto Barroso-Campos earned the first point with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Egor Panyushkin and Bueno followed with an 8-6 win at No. 2, before Lander snagged its first point at No. 3's with a marathon win, 9-8 (11-9).
Lander brought the score to 2-2 with a win at No. 3 singles before Elliot Carnello gave the Lions the lead with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 6 spot.
Barroso-Campos followed with the Lions' fourth point, taking down Chris Devoize, 6-4, 6-3. Lander brought it within one adding a point at No. 2 singles. But Bueno sealed the match with his win, leaving the game at 5-3. The No. 6 pairing ended unfinished.
The Lions tacked on the win over No. 5 Lander to a win over No. 7 Barry that happened on Friday evening.
Saint Leo returns to action on Wednesday, April 13 at 4 p.m.
