SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team moved to 6-0 on the season after taking down visiting Ferris State, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lions saw a bit of a fight from the Bulldogs in doubles play, but Saint Leo was able to pull away, earning all three points. Alberto Barroso-Campos and Alex Theiler saw the most trouble as Ferris' Vasil Surduk and Nur Adim Iswan battled them to a 9-7 match in the No. 1 doubles pairing. From there it got a little easier as Jaime Bueno and Oskar Nurmio won the No. 2 slot, 8-5, and Francisco Apraicio and Fons Verberne won 8-0 in the No.3 position.
Barroso-Campos dominated in the No. 1 singles match, taking down Surduk, 6-1, 6-1. Egor Panyushkin added a point for the Lions in the No. 2 position, winning 6-2, 6-2. Theiler also got the single win, taking down Iswan, 6-1, 6-2.
Apraicio took down Stew Hall, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (9), while Elliot Carnello earned a point in the No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-3, win. Guillaume Vanelven picked up the final point, winning 6-1, 6-3.
The Lions take on No.8 Concordia (N.Y.) next at 1PM on March 11 in St. Augustine, Fla.
