SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 3 Saint Leo women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference play after topping visiting Tampa, 8-1.
The Lions opened up with a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Katerine Zaatini and Isabella Robbiani earned the first point for the Lions, earning an 8-1 win. Natalia Siedliska and Anastasia Wagner followed with an 8-3 win, while Madeleine Gauthier and Coralie Pesenti ground out a win, 9-8 (6).
Robbiani, the birthday girl, added the fourth point for Saint Leo, adding a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 2 slot. Marine Beugre-Guyot sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 3 slot.
The Lions added wins in the No. 4, 5, and 1 spot, before Tampa stole a point in the No. 6 singles spot.
In the No. 4 slot, Pauline Helgesson took a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Gauthier added a 6-1, 6-0 win.
There was a battle in the No. 1 slot, as Tampa's Kristen Mee opened with a 6-4 win, but Siedliska responded with a 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) win in the second set and the tie break.
The Lions return to action on Sunday, April 3, at 10 am versus No. 5 Lynn University.
