MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – No. 7 Saint Leo defeated Barry in both games Friday, March 25, 8-5//6-5, to complete the three game sweep of the Buccaneers at Buccaneer Field to improve to 29-1 and 14-1 in Sunshine State Conference.
With the two victories, the Lions push their win streak up to 15 games, where Stephanie Adkins picked up both wins in two relief appearances. With the two loses, Barry falls to 14-13 overall and 8-7 in the SSC.
Adkins moves to 13-1 on the year in the circle. In the first game of the day, Adkins recorded her 100th career strikeout before recording five in the game. Adkins finished the day off with seven strikeouts to move to a career mark of 105.
GAME ONE - #7 Saint Leo 8, Barry 5
Saint Leo came back from a 3-0 deficit to take game one of the doubleheader 8-5 on Friday afternoon. Alana Tabel got the nod for the start before Stephanie Adkins came in, in relief in the bottom of the third inning. Adkins picks up the win and moves to 12-1 on the year as the Lions improved to 28-1, 13-1 SSC.
Barry jumped on the board first with two singles in the bottom of the first allowing Kayla Ogle to come around to score off the end of the bat of Dee Espinosa for the game's first run. The Buccaneers added to their run total after a squeeze play in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead.
Saint Leo got their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a Brittany Creamer single to left field bringing Ciera Schumaker around from second; Schumaker reached on a double.
The Lions started off the fifth inning with a solo homerun to left field off the bat of Bailey McKenna to cut the Buccaneers lead to 3-2, the dinger marked the first career homerun for McKenna. Tiffany Thompson singled up the middle and came around to score after a single from Brooke Samios-Uy.
Saint Leo broke the tie after scoring eight runs in the top of the seventh. A couple of Buccaneer errors led to the Lions coming in to score. Thompson led off with a single; Heath reached on an error as Samios-Uy shot one back to the second baseman who couldn't field it cleanly and scored Thompson. Schumaker loaded the bases with a single before Ohmie singled down the left line, plating Samios-Uy and Schumaker. Another Barry error at third base allowed Saint Leo to score Creamer.
Adkins came in the bottom of the seventh and retired Barry after two runs and four hits took the game to the final, 8-5.
After coming in, in the third inning, Adkins recorded five strikeouts and got her 100th career strikeout in the Green and Gold in the bottom of the fourth. Adkins got number 99 in the bottom of the third before getting her 100th in the next inning.
GAME TWO - #7 Saint Leo 6, Barry 5
Saint Leo moved to 29-1 and 14-1 SSC with the 6-5 win over the Buccaneers in the second game of the doubleheader. Stephanie Adkins came in for a second game relief appearance to pitch three innings, gave up just three hits and no runs. Adkins struck out two batters in the 13 faced.
Getting the start, Samantha Tyler pitched four innings, gave up seven hits, five runs and recorded three strikeouts.
Bucs get on-top in bottom of the first, with three runs on four singles. Saint Leo came back in the top of the second and score ## run(s). Ciera Schumaker was the lead off base runner as she walked and advanced to second and third on two wild pitches. Stephanie Adkins came up and reached on a fielder's choice scoring Schumaker from third.
Creamer continued the inning as she walked putting two on base for Samantha Ohmie. Ohmie took the 3-2 pitch deep to left center for a three-run homerun, to put Saint Leo back on top in the top of the second.
Barry came back in the bottom of the second as Cheyanne Head hit a two run dinger to left field to put the Buccaneers back on top 5-4.
Saint Leo tied it up 5-5 in the fifth inning as Schumaker came around on a single from Ohmie.
The Lions took the lead in the top of the seventh when Creamer smashed one over the left fielder's head to bring Danielle Bottley across the plate. Bottley entered the game at second base for a pinch runner for Schumaker who reached on a single to center field and advanced on a passed ball.

The Lions return home to host Flagler in a doubleheader on Friday, April 1st at University Softball Stadium where the games are slated for 5 & 7pm.
