7 run third inning lifts #7 Lions past Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – A seven-run third inning helped No. 7 Saint Leo blank Barry 10-0 in five innings on Thursday, March 24th at Buccaneers Field to open up the Sunshine State Conference series.

The Lions improve to 27-1 and 12-1 in the SSC with the win over the Buccaneers. Stephanie Adkins moved to 11-1 on the year with the win as she pitched the complete game with four strikeouts while giving up just two hits.

Brooke Samios-Uy went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with one run scored and two runs batted in. Stephanie Adkins helped her own cause going a 2-for-2 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Brittany Creamer and Samantha Ohmie went 2-for-3 on the night, as Creamer had two runs scored and three RBI as Ohmie had one run and two RBI. Sommer Pollard went 1-for-2 with one run scored.

Saint Leo had 15 hits compared to the Buccaneers two as both team recorded no errors in the game.

The Lions got on the board first with one run in the first inning as Tiffany Thompson started the game with a blooper to right field. Rachael Heath laid down a sacrifice bunt before Brooke Samios-Uy singled moving Thompson to third. Stephanie Adkins came up and hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Thompson, helping her own cause.

Saint Leo batted around in the third inning as they blew open the game with seven runs. Brooke Samios-Uy started things off with a double to left center before three straight singles by Ciera Schumaker, Stephanie Adkins and Brittany Creamer and a double by Samantha Ohmie scored four runs. Sommer Pollard and Tiffany Thompson would come in to score the final two runs of the inning.

A two-run blast over the left center wall by Creamer plated the ninth and tenth runs of the game for Saint Leo. Creamer was in a 10-pitch battle before liftoff occurred plating Adkins, who reached on a double down the left field line.

Adkins came in the circle in the bottom of the fifth and shut the door on the Bucs sitting the Barry batters down with two ground outs and one strikeout.

Saint Leo continues play at Barry with a doubleheader Friday, March 25th set for 12 and 2 pm at Buccaneer Field.
