SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 9 Saint Leo won game two of the series 5-0 in five innings over Florida Southern as the game was called due to weather and field conditions on Saturday, March 19th. The final game of the series was moved to Sunday, March 20 at 6:00 pm.
The Lions improved to 25-1 and 10-1 Sunshine State Conference with the 5-0 victory over Florida Southern as the Moccasins drop to 10-19-1 and 3-7-1 SSC. Saint Leo improves to 16-0 at home and has extended their win-streak to 11 straight.
Alana Tabel got the victory for Saint Leo to move to 10-0 on the year. Tabel gave up just one hit in the game with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Florida Southern's starter Jessica Trana got the loss and moves to 0-3 on the year, throwing four innings giving up two hits and five runs, two earned, and five walks. Trana recorded two strikeouts against the 22 batters faced.
Ciera Schumaker and Stephanie Adkins recorded the two lone hits for the Lions as they both went 1-for-3 from the plate. Schumaker scored once and drove in one run.
Saint Leo jumped out in front in the bottom of the first when Ciera Schumaker singled through the right side scoring Rachael Heath. Brooke Samios-Uy was the final run in the inning as she scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
The Lions would add one in the second, third and fourth innings as play would be stopped and the game would be official in the bottom of the fifth with one on base for Saint Leo.
In the second inning, Samantha Ohmie walked and moved to second on a Danielle Bottley sacrifice bunt before moving to third on a Sommer Pollard ground out to the right side of the field. A Moccasins' error allowed Ohmie to come across the plate for the lone run in the inning.
Again an error by the Mocs would allow Saint Leo to tack on an unearned run as Schumaker reached on an error by the second baseman. Adkins doubled to right field pushing runners to second and third with one out. Ohmie stepped to the plate with bases loaded, following a Brittany Creamer walk, and was drilled with the first pitch scoring Schumaker to put Saint Leo up 4-0.
Play was suspended in the top of the fourth with one on and no outs for 15 minutes. Lions' pitcher Alana Tabel would close the door in the top of the inning with two straight strikeouts and a ground out.
In the bottom half of the inning, Saint Leo was able to push Rachael Heath across on a wild pitch by Florida Southern's Trana. Heath reached walked and stole second before getting moved over on a Samios-Uy sacrifice bunt.
Tabel worked a clean side in the top of the fifth before Saint Leo had one runner on first in the bottom of the inning as the umpires decided enough was enough and due to field conditions and the weather, they called the game. Adkins started off the fifth by reaching on an error by the shortstop.

The final game of the series was pushed back to Sunday, March 20th at 6:00 pm as the Lions look to extend their conference and overall record against Florida Southern.
