SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's tennis team picked up an important regional win on Tuesday afternoon, topping the No. 6 ranked West Florida Argos, 6-3.
The No. 3 Lion, now 8-1, used a 2-1 in doubles and a sweep of the first four spots in singles to take the important win.
Isabella Robbiani and Anastasia Wagner teamed up to take down Katarina Dikosavljevic and Hannah Toro, 8-3, in the No. 1 doubles pairing. Saint Leo added another point when Marine Beugre-Guyot and Pauline Helgesson took down Dianna Vlad and Valeria Mantilla, 8-3, in the No. 3 doubles. Despite a valiant effort, the Lions fell 9-8 (6) in the No. 2 doubles to give that Argo's their first point of the match.
Natalia Siedliska bounced back from doubles play to give the Lions the first singles point, topping Toro, 6-0, 6-3. Beugre-Guyot took the match to 4-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 3 singles.
It was a win from Sunshine State Female Tennis of the Week Isabella Robbiani that sealed the match for the Lions. The senior took down Dikosavljevic in the No. 2 singles spot, 6-3, 6-3.
Saint Leo added another point as Helgesson took the No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-4.
The visiting Argos snagged two points taking the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 7-5, and the No. 6 spot, 6-2, 6-4.
The Lions return to action as the head to Denver, Colo., the site of the 2016 DII NCAA Championships, for a three-game road trip, opening on March 18 versus St. Mary's (Texas).
