Saint Leo picks up third win over a Top-10 opponent

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 7 Saint Leo men's tennis team took down No. 8 Concordia (N.Y.), 7-2, on Friday in neutral site action.

With a 2-1 lead following doubles, the Lions saw Elliot Carnello top Luca Corigliand, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 6 slot to seal the final point for the Lions.

Egor Panyushkin took down Rafael Ferreira, 6-0, 1-0 in retirement, and Alex Theiler took the No. 2 set, 6-3, 6-1. The Lions No. 1 Alberto Barroso-Campos took down Mao Ray, 6-1, 6-4.

The Lions added another point in the No. 4 singles spot, seeing Jaime Bueno win, 6-1, 6-4. The Clippers earned a point in the singles in the No. 5 spot as Alessandro Evangelisti topped Francisco Aparicio, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (2).  

The Lions with a win in the No. 1 singles as Barroso-Campos and Theiler took the match, 8-6, and Bueno and Oskar Nurmio teamed up in the No. 2 spot to win by a matching score.

Aparicio and Fons Verberne fell in a battle, 8-9 (5).

The Lions are now 7-0 with wins over No. 3 Armstrong State, No. 8 Concordia, No. 9 Valdosta State, No. 12 Georgia College, and No. 25 Flagler. The men's team plays again on Saturday versus the No. 2 team in NAIA Auburn University at Montgomery at 11 A.M.
