DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Stephanie Adkins threw a no-hitter in game one of a three game series at Embry-Riddle on Friday, February 19th in Saint Leo's 5-0 win at ERAU Softball Stadium.
Saint Leo improves to 7-0 on the season behind Adkins' win, who walked only four batters and fanned 10 in the 27 batters faced. Adkins on the year moves to 4-0 in the circle for the Lions. With the win, Saint Leo pushes their win streak to 17 consecutive games dating back to April 3rd, 2015, marking the second longest win streak in program history.
The Lions were led by Brittany Creamer, Danielle Ferrara and Rachael Heath who all went 2-for-3 from the plate this evening. Creamer scored two runs, Ferrara had one RBI and Heath had one run and one RBI.
Saint Leo jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the second inning when the team had back-to-back-to-back singles started off with Creamer and capped off by Heath who scored Creamer.
In the top of the fourth inning, Saint Leo's leadoff hitter Ciera Schumaker, would blast a homerun over the right field wall, extending the Lions' lead to 2-0. Saint Leo was not done in the fourth inning as Creamer would triple to right center followed by a Ferrara double to right, scoring Creamer where the Lions were up 3-0.
Saint Leo would put two more insurance runs on the board in the top of the seventh as Samantha Ohmie singled up the middle scoring Sommer Pollard and Heath, where the Lions would go on for the 5-0 victory.
Adkins would shut the door on Embry-Riddle in the bottom of the seventh with give up no runs, on no hits and no errors stranding two Eagles on base to seal her fourth victory of the night. Adkins' dominating performance and help from the rest of the pride snapped Embry-Riddles six game win streak and handed them their first loss of the season.
