SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball fell to Eckerd College on Wednesday evening, 63-48. The Lions were limited on their three-point shooting which is typically their mainstay, hitting just two in the game.
Chelsy Springs led the Lions with her seventh double-double of the season. She finished with 15 points, on 50-percent shooting, adding 10 rebounds.

How It Happened…
1Q | The first quarter was balanced as each team traded buckets, leaving the score at 11 until Margaret Sundberg hit a deep three point shot for Eckerd, giving them a three-point lead, breaking a two minute scoring drought. Chelsy Springs did what she does best, grabbing an offensive rebound closing the gap. Alysia Johnson dominated the boards, grabbing five in the period. | EC 17-13 |
2Q | Eckerd opened the period on a 4-0 streak, increasing their lead to eight. However, the Lions used their own 6-0 streak getting a balanced offensive attack to close the score to 21-19. From there both teams went on a scoring drought, both going 1-6 from the field, until EC hit a three form deep. Eckerd kept the foot on the gas, expanding their lead. In the first half, the Lions were unable to hit from deep as well, going 0-10 from beyond the arc. | EC 33-23 |
3Q | The Tritons' jumped out to a 9-0 lead to start the second half, until a Johnson fast-break halted their momentum. The Lions' were held to just six points in the third, starting the quarter on 16.7-percent shooting. Eckerd also took care of the ball in the period committing zero turnovers. | EC 51-29 |
4Q | The fourth quarter was balanced, going back-and-fourth including Mary Redmond hitting the Lions first three of the game. Saint Leo put on the press, attempting to mount a come-back. Redmond hit her second three, bringing the lead down to just 17 points. Saint Leo held Eckerd to a two of eight shooting and forced them into four turnovers in four minutes. - Springs recorded her seventh-straight double-figure performance, and her 17th of the season.
- Redmond followed with 12 points.
- Johnson finished the game with a team-high 11 rebounds. This as her second double-digit rebounding game.
- As a team, the Lions out-rebounded the visitors, 44-34.
For the Tritons
- The Tritons saw Sundberg lead them in scoring, giving them 14 points and five rebounds. Kacie Juday followed with 12 points.
- Eckerd committed just 11 turnovers, and scored 19 points off Saint Leo's 21 turnovers.
